Chamomilla recutita: Chamomile 30 grams

Description

Chamomilla recutita: Chamomile flowers contain Chamazulene, an aromatic chemical compound that possesses anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antispasmodic properties. Chamomile tea is popular across the world, it is steeped with both health and skin benefits and probably the most common bed time or soothing herb known.

The word Chamomile comes from the Greek meaning "ground apple", probably because of its apple-like fragrance. The Romans used Chamomile for incense. Interestingly, Roman Chamomile gained its name, not from ancient Rome, but because a 19th century plant collector found some growing on the ruins of the coliseum in Rome. Chamomile was used in ancient Egypt for fevers and was dedicated to the Sun God Ra, in fact, it is said that the Egyptians valued it over all other herbs for its healing qualities. Chamomile was also one of the nine sacred herbs to the Anglo Saxons.

Due to its sedative and relaxing properties Chamomile was a common ingredient in love potions in the middle ages. It is used in spells for money, peace, love, tranquility and purification. An infusion used to wash thresholds (doors and windows) is said to help keep unwanted energies or entities from passing through. Sprinkle powdered chamomile flowers or an infusion around your self or home to remove spells cast against you and to prevent fires and lightening strikes. Use it in a ritual bath before performing spells for any of these purposes.

Chamomile flowers can be infused in water like a strong tea and used as a hair tonic, especially for fair hair. The flowers are sometimes added to cosmetics as an anti-allergenic agent or made into a salve for use on hemorrhoids and wounds. The dried herb is made into potpourri and herb pillows, and is burned for aromatherapy. Applied externally as a wash or compress for skin inflammations, sunburn, burns, and added to bath for relaxing tired, achy muscles and feet, and softening the skin.
